Rape matters
AIR FORCE COEDS . . . In the Air Force Academy rape story (Sun-Times 3/9/03, AP), we see the rationale behind gender segregation, as now not practiced in the military, with predictably dire results. It is the ages-old proclivity of men to take it when they can get it and get away with it that led to segregation eons ago. Remove it and you risk a rise in rapes. We are surprised?
Lucky to get through one's four years at the academy without being raped, female cadets were told, we read in this story about rape victim Sharon Fullilove, now a U. of Arizona student, whose mother is an officer stationed at the academy. Egad. And parents send their daughters there? (3/12/03)
